'Tender, Goddess' By Matilda Walsh
"‘Tender, Goddess’ draws upon inspiration from ancient Greek deities: Amphitrite, Aphrodite, and the Venus, to name a few. Classic chapel motifs and traditional works of art – think Giorgione or 11th century Romanesque art – have also been used as visual aids. Agnes Martin said: “Beauty is the mystery of life. It is not in the eye, it is in the mind. In our minds, there is awareness of perfection. We respond to beauty with emotion.” My paintings represent various incarnations of the female form through the lens of a woman and mother. Strong yet vulnerable, confident yet imperfect, these forms dwell in a kind of dream space, free to reflect on notions of love and self."
